Musicians. A curious bunch indeed. When Mozart’s first Top 40 hit posed the question ‘(Who Stuck The Gum) Under My Harpsichord?’, he inspired generations of songwriters to follow suit.

The Q&A Playlist features 100 songs with questions for titles. And while a quick Google-search would’ve helped a few people out (Dionne Warwick, I’m looking at YOU), I’ve also attempted to provide an answer to each question. The mathematically-inclined amongst you will have realised that that’s TWO HUNDRED songs of Q&A-based goodness.

So why did Moby’s heart feel so bad? What was it that caused it to always rain on Travis? When The Bee Gees wondered how to mend a broken heart, who would come up with a simple solution? Would Nirvana be prepared for the answer to the question, “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?”

The Q&A playlist contains a mixture of rock, pop, punk, soul, hip-hop, indie and a diverse set of bands and musicians. I tried to keep repeat appearances down to a minimum, but a handful of bands are just so damn inquisitive that they have a couple of songs on the list. The most important thing is that each song that poses a question is followed by another that has an answer as its title.

Now. Are you ready?

  • Brilliant list. Absolute genius. Could possibly add the question:
Aaron Neville - What Did I Do?

with a host of possible answers:
    The Killers - I Can't Say
    Patti LuPone - I Dreamed a Dream
    Ray Charles - I Got a Woman

    or simply
Barbara Streisand - He Touched Me
