Below is a video demo of the forthcoming Spotify app for Google Android mobile phones. Unlike the recent video that was circulating showing what looked like an iPhone Spotfy app, this video IS genuine and from Spotify themselves. The app was demoed at the Google I/O Developer Conference in San Francisco yesterday and although it’s a work in progress it shows some pretty cool features.
Perhaps the feature that will be most talked about is the ability for the Spotify Android app to play tracks offline. Yes, that means where there is no wi-fi, 3G, or phone signal at all, as the narrator in the video says, one of the most popular questions from mobile Spotify users will be, “how do you use Spotify on your mobile when offline, say on the underground?” The video then shows the user selecting the playlists he wants available offline and they proceed to sync for offline use. The playlist in the demo is quite short, just 5 tracks, but they sync quickly and are then stored on the mobile to be played on demand.
What isn’t covered in the demo is how many playlists or songs you can store offline. We’re just speculating here but it will probably be a low limited number with the option to store more if you’re a premium user. Or maybe the Android app will bring in a new subscription service altogether purely for Spotify mobile users.
Either way we thing the Spotify Google Android app looks awesome and we can’t wait to try it. So, is the Spotify iPhone app going to be next?
