Let's begin ... well, at the beginning. Russell Goldsmith created this playlist the week the Olympic torch arrived in the UK – it's a collection of torch songs ... literally. Tom Jones, U2, the Doors, Take That, Kasabian, Kings of Leon, Jamie T and many more besides. Good idea; great playlist.

Olympics London 2012 - Opening Ceremony
"The Olympics opening ceremony playlist has leaked," says soundofus.com. They've compiled all of the music expected to feature at the ceremony, directed by Danny Boyle, including everyone from the Clash, Sex Pistols and the Jam, to New Order, Happy Mondays and Oasis.
lpmale has created a playlist featuring a track from almost every nation competing at the event. An incredible journey through global music, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, this is "The sound of the world in London". An amazing playlist. Well worth checking out.
Long live the mixtape!
