The following is a contender for our greatest ever featured playlists post. We've got a superb samples collection and amazing literary mixtape, the best music on television and swinging selection of tunes. Eyeball south to check them out...

A Tribe Called Quest - The Samples

More mixtape magic from king of the samples, agent3613. This time it's the turn of A Tribe Called Quest. It's the usual drill: original tracks – from one of the greatest hip-hop collectives of all-time – and the songs from which they pilfered their hooks. Brilliant, as always. Around "On The Road"

We absolutely love this next playlist, created by TheOrchard. They've put together a collection of tunes to soundtrack the misadventures of Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty, the characters in Jack Kerouac's seminal book On the Road. Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Slim Gaillard, Dizzie Gillespie, Miles Davis and more.

MAD MEN Essentials

By far and away the best thing on TV at the moment, Mad Men also has one of the coolest soundtracks. Baba booya has carefully put together this playlist charting the best musical moments from all five series, selecting just 23 of the most memorable tracks.

Swing, Swing, Swing!

"Ever heard Sing, Sing, Sing played by Benny Goodman and loved it?" avante asks. "If yes, this is a playlist for you. I made it because Benny's song left me wanting more and I felt I had to put a playlist together, all in honour of that song." Check out more swing playlists here

Long live the mixtape!
