Playlist reviews: A Soundtrack for Coding
Thursday, July 5th, 2012 at 9:28am by Will Moreland |

We know what you're thinking... This is a very – very – niche blog post, right? Wrong. The following mixtapes, created by Joanna Butler, transcend their techy roots. They may have been created to entertain developer-types while they do whatever it is they do to make the internet work. But they're also some of our most popular playlists ever. Check them out:

This isn't the first coding playlist we ever received, but it's certainly the most successful – over 15,000 plays and counting. If this mixtape was an artist, it would be Elvis. It's the point at which coding playlists went overground... sort of.
Featured here: Massive Attack, Moderat, Orbital, Fluke, Mj Cole, Jose Gonzalez, Moby and more. "There's no place like 94.236.35.249," says mixtape-maker Joanna Butler. We couldn't agree more...

A Soundtrack for Coding: the 2am session
Hot on the heels of her first, smash hit coding playlist – well, almost a year later, actually – Joanna Butler unleashes her latest creation into cyberspace, A Soundtrack for Coding: the 2am session.
"This second edition," she says, "aims to make your tech skills shine in the small hours." She infuses "soothing sounds" with "electro beats" to ensue coders make their deadlines. Four Tet, Burial, Infected Mushroom, Popof, Fredrik and more – 50 tracks altogether, which is just over seven hours of cody beats.
Many thanks to Joanna Butler for these superb playlists. We're looking forward to volume three already.

Long live the mixtape!
