Oi! 80s kids. 80s teens. People who just like the 80s, a bit. We've got a quartet of playlists dedicated to the decade that gave us big hair, dodgy clothes and some amazing music.

Sounds Like 80s

We begin with the playlist that inspired this 80s kick of ours, Sounds Like 80s; created by an SMP user with a name that sounds like an 80s popstar, Barry David Davis. Here you'll find 50 contemporary songs that sound like 80s electropop and synthpop. Brilliant.

Classic 80's Indie - The birth of a genre

Very popular on the old SMP Facebook page, this one. The 80s wasn't all electropop, synthpop, Thatcher and Reagan. Oh no. It was also the decade that spawned indie music: James, The Fall, The Jesus And Mary Chain, The The, Echo And The Bunnymen, Orange Juice, and many more besides feature on this classic playlist.

Sounds of Summer: 80s

Is the sun shining where you are? Planning a BBQ in the sun this weekend? Have this as your soundtrack – a boatload of gloriously cheesy, very 80s, sunshine tunes. Miami Sound Machine, Katrina & the Waves, DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince and more among the summery hits here.

80s Walkman mix

Next up, a playlist created by cyna1. Pop on your leg-warmers, coiffure that hair and pogo in your hi-tops to this 80s Walkman mix. From David Bowie and Blondie to Huey Lewis & the News and Adam & the Ants, this one's a cracker.

Long live the mixtape!
