Will.i.am feat Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez – T.H.E (The Hardest Ever)
Will.i.am, Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger? I.am, Lopez and Jagger. It's every bit as rotten as it sounds. “Oh my goodness / This beat is so hard,” begins the Black Eyed Peas hoofer. In actual fact, this beat is the sound of a faulty Casio keyboard having an argument with an old dial-up modem, J-Lo's banging on in monotone, then Sir Mick comes crashing in, howling about “geometry”, “trigonometry” and “psychology”. T.H.E (The Hardest Ever) is like three or four really bad songs playing concurrently.

Melancholy Sky is one of two new tracks taken from The Singles, the fourteen-track Goldfrapp retrospective released at the end of last year, where we find Alison Goldfrapp whispering psychedelic sweet nothings over Will Gregory's dreamy, synth-led composition. It's the duo at their Felt Mountain best.

Gotye feat. Kimbra – Somebody That I Used To Know
Australian multi-instrumental Gotye has a new album, Making Mirrors, out this month. His latest single, Somebody That I Used To Know, is a collaboration with Kiwi singer Kimbra Johnson. With the exception of Johnson's saccharine verse, it all sounds “a bit Sting”. Particularly on the “some-bahh-dee” bits.

James Levy & The Blood Red Rose – Sneak Into My Room
Our favourite new single this week comes from James Levy & The Blood Red Rose – aka James Levy and The Pierces’ Alison Pierce. It's their chemistry as a duo that makes this love and jealousy vignette so believable, Pierce's honeyed delivery complimenting Levy's anachronistic baritone beautifully.

The latest release from Maverick Sabre, No One, is also new on Spotify this week. As agreeable as his Winehouse-and-Quaye alloyed tones are, this cuckolded croon is a largely forgettable affair compared to previous outings.
