Another playlist idea of mine that turned into a labor of musical love.

You don't have to be a music junkie to know that Video Killed The Radio Star was the first video played on MTV. What was the second, third, etc video though?

I wondered that myelf and so I did some research and put together a playlist of the first 24 hours of MTV videos in order of which they were played complete with repeat performances if they happened. The only time a song isn't there is if it isn't available on spotify.

A few things that stood out:

- REO Speedwagon were BY FAR the most played band. They were even played back to back at least once. Their song 'Keep On Loving You' was the first Billboard Hot 100 song to be played on MTV.-

- Rod Stewart was the most played solo artist on the day. He was also the first artist to have two different music videos played on MTV.

- The Who's You Better You Bet was the first video to be played more than once on MTV.

- April Wine was the first Canadian band to be played on MTV.

- The first non-white musicans to appear on MTV were Neville Staple and Lynval Golding of The Specials. ...show less
