This playlist provides a unique historical perspective of Jamaica's vibrant music scene over the past 70 years.
With the exception of Great Britain no other small island has contributed so much to the world musically. This playlist showcases and celebrates the many talented artists and genres that have emerged from the island.
The genres include Folk, Mento, Calypso, Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Dub, Dancehall and Ragga.
The mix can be listened as a complete continous mix (on two second cross fade), or in sections. If you just wanted to have a taste of the island then put it on shuffle, it wont be long until you are swept away in the magnifcant sounds of sunshine!
The mix should appeal to anybody who is interested in Jamaican history / popular culture. It will also appeal to people who are interested in punk, two-tone ska, rocksteady, rudeboy, dubstep and many other sub-genres.
