  • Collaborative Playlists

For those of you who, like me, think that discovering good music should be as easy as sharing it!

This is a group where you can suggest that others add to YOUR collaborative playlist, and you can join OTHERS so that you can easily discover good music, as well as knowing that others are enjoying your suggestions too!!

It’s the way that music SHOULD be. Shared - not hoarded and kept to yourself in a pain-stakingly meticulous playlist of your own!

This is my own Alternative Mix: http://open.spotify.com/user/likeinmydream/playlist/7u5Ja46n0TJvckh1WkV0OI
feel free to add if you are, like I am, alternatively motivated ;D

  • Grunge / Post Grunge
active 3 hours, 33 minutes ago

Grunge (sometimes referred to as the Seattle sound) is a subgenre of alternative rock that emerged during the mid-1980s in the American state of Washington, particularly in the Seattle area. Inspired by hardcore punk, heavy metal and indie rock, grunge is generally characterized by heavily distorted electric guitars, contrasting song dynamics, and apathetic or angst-filled lyrics. The grunge aesthetic is stripped-down compared to other forms of rock music, and many grunge musicians were noted for their unkempt appearances and rejection of theatrics.

  • Electro House
active 4 hours, 25 minutes ago

Electro house is a subgenre of house music that rose to become one of the most prominent genres of electronic dance music in the late 2000 decade. Stylistically, it combines the four to the floor beats commonly found in house music with harmonically rich analogue basslines, abrasive high-pitched leads and the occasional piano or string riff. The tempo of electro house ranges approximately from 120 to 135 bpm.

The most prominent predecessors of electro house are electroclash, tech house and progressive house of the late 1990s, whereas the style itself is considered to have originated in mid-2005. Electrotech and Electrance are subgenres of electro house denoted by much darker song mood, similar to techno and trance music.

The use of the word electro to describe this style of modern house music is contentious, and creates an ambiguity between electro house and classic electro, mostly because both styles sometimes share common sounding characteristics and similar tempo speed.

  • Indie Music
active 7 hours, 45 minutes ago

The term ‘indie’ is best known as being an abbreviation for the word ‘independent’. This term was used to differentiate between bands that were on a major record label and those that weren’t.

However, in recent years the term has been applied to bands that have an alternative rock sound but still could be on a major record label.

Indie rock, alternative, indietronica, post-punk, dance-punk, new rave…whatever you wish to call it - Enjoy the awesome playlists here posted by our fabolous members! And don’t hesitate to post your own! All contributions appreciated.
