Playlist: Better to burn out than to fade away - september 2011

No. 1
Morton Valence - I'm Gonna Stand By You (Bastard Recordings, 2011)
This London duo (amped to five) make some strange, lo fi twisted countrypop. Hauntingly beautiful. The whole album is woth checking out by the way. As well as the podcasts they make for us.

No. 2
Dennis Brown - In Their Own Way (Gussie Roots)
Dennis Brown and Big Youth collaborating on this monster of a roots reggae riddim. Massive!

No. 3
Toro Y Moi - Still Sounds (Voodoo Bear Remix) (Tsugi, 2011)
Dunno who this Voodoo Bear guy is, but it's a nice remix of one of the tunes from 2011.

No. 4
Broken Glass - Rather You Than Me (Steep Hill, 1981)
A rather rare modern soul midtempo number. Goes for around 70$. Pack it in!

No. 5
Coyote - Our Time (Is It Balearic?, 2011)
We love Coyote from Nottingham. Their taste in music is mind boggling. And their productions exactly in our state of frame. It's their time! Off their album «Half Coyote Half Man».

No. 6
40 Thieves - Crystal Mountain Thunder (Leng, 2011)
Another belter from Leng. Nu Balearica niceness with those fuzzed guitar riffs perfect for a stormy afternoon at the shore.

No. 7
Blood Orange - Toshito (In Flagranti Remix) (Domino, 2011)
Afro-voodooish remix by In Flagranti for the most hyped project of the year (formerly known as Lightspeed Champion). Wanna hear this on a dance floor soon.

No. 8
Jonathan Wilson - Gentle Spirit (Bella Union, 2011)
Off his beautiful debut «Gentle Spirit». Probably the best album of 2011. It's really this fantastic. You can pick any track of it.

No. 9
Neville Skelly - Colours Collide (Watertown, 2011)
A self acclaimed crooner from Liverpool with a tune that doesnt really sound like 2011. Vintage!

No. 10
Neil Young - My My Hey Hey (Reprise, 1978)
Noel Gallagher just said in an interview with Mojo that the world can be split into two camps. The people that like Neil Young and the ones that doesnt. And the ones that dont like Neil Young are idiots. Hey hey! Better to burn out than to fade out!

No. 11
Peter Broderick - Not At Home (Bella Union, 2009)
The last movie with Keira Knightly was quite good. «Last Night» is about relationships and fidelity. And this is playing in the end credits. One of our fave tunes of the last few years anyway. New album by Broderick out later this year.

No. 12
Jose Feliciano - Don't Let The Sun Catch Let You Crying (RCA Victor, 1968)
Orginally be Gerry & The Pacemakers this is one of the tunes that makes you really go saaaad. If you're heartbroken that is. Isnt it good?

No. 13
Nicolas Jaar - Hey Boy (Wolf + Lamb Black, 2011)
An edit of The Blow's Hey Boy. But not done by anyone. It's the genius of Nico Jaar again. Has he done anything that isnt pure bliss yet?

No. 14
DJ Cam - Swim (feat. Chris James) (Inflamable, 2011)
French old school DJ Cam seems to go the DJ Shadow pathway. This is a beauty of a song featuring Chris James of Stateless on vocals.

No. 15
Jerry Williams - Easy On Yourself (Beat Brokers Edit) (Ghost Town, 2011)
Originally from 1979, this unknown softrock gem got the Beat Broker treatment and sounds fresher than ever.

No. 16
Behling - Without You (Future Boogie, 2011)
First release on this new imprint. A three-split EP with the best track massive on the percussions which makes it so irrisitably danceable.

No. 17
Timeless Legend - Baby Don't Do This To Me (Pendulum, 1976)
A soul jewel out of Ohio. Lovin' it.

No. 18
John Stammers - Idle I'm (Colorama Coloured In Remix) (Wonderful Sound, 2011)
This is still one of our favourite labels, eventhough they have so few releases.

No. 19
Mayer Hawthorne - When The Night Falls (Turbo, 2011)
Hawty covers this tune by Chromeo and makes it a classic. We always had a thing for him, you know. When will he finally answer our unanswered calls for an interview?

No. 20
Our Broken Garden - Breathe (Mojo Magazine, 2011)
Off the latest MOJO CD revisiting Pink Floyd's «The Dark Side Of The Moon» album. One of our fave Danish singers is in her element. Huge! ...show less
