The Big Beat era only lasted for a brief period in the 90s and into the start of the new millennium, but the genre holds many great tracks.
Whilst the style was mainly defined by chunky beats and distorted basslines, Big Beat allowed producers freedom of the elements which meant no restrictions on tempo or instrumentation (organic or otherwise), and could maintain quality without taking itself too seriously.
Labels such as Skint, Wall of Sound and Kingsize were responsible for unleashing such artists as Fatboy Slim, Les Rhythmes Digitales and Meat Katie and could always be relied on for fresh, fun and fantastic material.
The playlist can be used as an insight into the genre, or just purely for nostalig purposes for those who took, like me, a major interest in the scene. Enjoy...!
