He is popular in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, Blue Goose Records rereleased his two albums and a compilation in the late 70's: "Cold Fact", "Coming From Reality" and "At His Best", as well as a live recording from his 1980 tour of Australia, "Rodriguez Alive". "Coming From Reality" was called "After The Fact" in South Africa. A tour of South Africa in 1998 followed the release of "Looking for Jesus" a documentary where a South African journalist and fan sets out to find him after longstanding rumors of his death.

This was also marked by another album release, "Live Fact", that went platinum in South Africa.
