Mona Lisa (1) was born on November 20, 1979 in Yonkers, New York to a African American/Native American mother and a Caucasian father. Mona's mother is a Pentecostal minister. She was once signed to Island Black Music, a subsidiary of Island Records from 1995-1998 and Def Soul, a subsidiary of Def Jam Records from 1998-1999. Her debut single was "Can't Be Wasting My Time" featuring Mr.
Cheeks, a member of the hip-hop group Lost Boyz. The song was featured on the "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood" soundtrack as well as her debut album 11-20-79. Mona Lisa (2) released five albums between 1974 and 1979, then resurfaced in the 1998 with a new album and some live dates, one of which became the live album Progfest 2000.
