Speaking with Songfacts in a 2011 interview, Pryor said the raw production of his second album, May Day, reflects his emotional state at the time of recording: "I mean, it's a home recording written and recorded by someone who was very, very frustrated and somewhat angry. So I think that it was better to convey that. I'm not going to get hung up on what kind of microphones and pre-amps we're using to make the record. I just wanted to be raw, and I wanted it to convey the feelings that I was having.
