Kotchy's percussive roots shine on "89", electro-acoustic hybrid productions littered with subtle melodies, harmony's with straight heat lyrics and a cool delivery. "89" is Beck, Prince all mixed up with smacks of Pharrell's production. Beats shift from glitched out pop to dubconscious hip-hop with drop and hang stylings like the late J. Dilla and his contemporaries, Warp's Flying Lotus and Stuff's Rustie "She Made it Easy" is the first taste of "89".
It's a 4/4 hybrid of NYC disco and emo esq guitar. Glitched and whispered it's a tale of a girl who entered and left his life, but, somewhat unusually, draws inspiration from the ease of the break as oppose to the pain of it. The track has been a big blog favorite, and now the Cat is finally out of the bag. The flip on the 7" is Bruce Fleetwood, a cheeky little number that combines The Boss and The Mac. ...show less
