While in college, Hey studied under Bill Adam at Indiana University. In 1982 he and Quincy Jones received a Grammy Award as (arrangers) in the category # Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocal(s) - for "Ai No Corrida" performed by Quincy Jones.
