But in reality hours upon hours were dedicated to perfecting their craft, and it seems the work is already paying off in spades. The Hyperion duo of Maximilian Clarke and James Wall hooked up at high school, producing tunes together for fun until they decided to enter their school's Battle of the Bands competition as a live electronica act, complete with electro-jazz improvisation. But that was enough to get them hooked, and a studio partnership was born. The Queensland sun was avoided at all costs, with the boys more interested in working on their studio tans, devising snappy outfits to wear for future excursions into the live arena, and most importantly honing their sound. Hyperion smashed their way into the Australian clubbing consciousness with a jaw-dropping performance at Brisbane's pre-eminent live electronica showcase Elements in March 2007. They haven't looked back since.
Their blend of tech-funk breaks and progressive influences has seen them score slots in support of General Midi and Chris Carter as well as headlining their own successful club nights in their home town of Brisbane. The pair hasn't been radio shy either, with sets aired on Triple J's The Club and Dancenode Radio as the year progressed. But it's in the studio where Max and Jim truly work their magic.
