Emmett Miller

Emmett Miller was a minstrel singer born in Macon, Georgia in 1900. In addition to touring widely with minstrel shows, he recorded several records with Okeh in the 1920s. Because minstel shows are now looked upon now with embarrassment, Miller has been mostly forgotten despite a vocal style that influenced early country singers like Jimmie Rodgers and a backup group - The Georgia Crackers - that included Tommy Dorsey and Jimmy Dorsey. His influence is most apparent in Bob Wills recording of "I Ain't Got Nobody," and Hank Williams' "Lovesick Blues," which closely copy Miller's recordings of the same songs. ...show more

He continued to perform in minstrel shows well into the 1950's, long after they fell out of fashion. He finally returned to Macon where he died in 1962.. ...show less
