Saluton! Europe has been producing some fantastic synth pop over the past few years, picking up the baton dropped by the British New Wave back in the 80's. Here then is a playlist of 45 of my favourite tracks from the best in European synthpop on Spotify.
Partly chronological, Synthpop Europa starts with a first-eleven selection of the German bands who carried synthpop through the 90's and into this century. Three artists from Greece follow, before we set off on a whirlwind tour covering France, Ireland, Denmark, and Finland.
The second half of this playlist belongs to the country that gave us ABBA, Björn Borg, The Pirate Bay and Spotify itself: Sweden. Sweden is the third largest music exporter in the world and is surely the current home of synthpop. Swedish record labels such as Wonderland Records and Electric Fantastic Sound are currently championing the electro sound throughout Europe, and luckily for Brit synthpoppers like myself it's all on Spotify!
