So many people on my Facebook have done this and so this is the mixtape story of (some of) my life.
My 30 Day Song Challenge
Day 01 - Your Favourite Song : Spotify doesn't actually have one of my joint first favourite songs in its catalogue so that particular one shall forever remain a mystery, harharhar. My other fave is I'm With You - Avril Lavigne. I don't care what people think - I've loved this woman since 2001/2002 when I was 12/13.
Day 02 - Your Least Favourite Song : Naïve - The Kooks
Yes I do sing along and yeah, it does kinda make me want to sway my arms in the air and.. smile. But I hate it. I blame it on EVERYONE going mental when this song first came out and I stood as unmoving as a boulder and refused to join the gratuitous hype.
Day 03 - A Song That Makes You Happy : Accidentally In Love - Julia Nunes.
I love the original song so much so when I heard/saw Julia sing this on her You Tube channel I got sucked into her cuteness vortex :-).
Day 04 - A Song That Makes You Sad : Paint Your Target (Acoustic) - Fightstar.
It reminds me of an ex-boyfriend and takes me right back.
Day 05 - A Song That Reminds You Of Someone : Credence - Opeth.
When I first started uni, I met a guy called Josh who sent me this song along with a few others (Tallulah - Sonata Arctica, Shy - Sonata Arctica being other particularly noteable tracks.) The guy soon became my boyfriend and these songs are very special to me because of him.
Day 06 - A Song That Reminds You Of Somewhere : Oh, Canada - Five Iron Frenzy.
This song takes me back to when I was working in the kitchen at The Oakes holiday centre in Sheffield. Everyone was dancing with mops, people were grooving with their marigolds on, people were singing whilst working the dishwasher. Brilliant fun.
Day 07 - A Song That Reminds You Of A Certain Event : Blood Sugar - Pendulum.
Oh, to be back at uni on a packed dance floor, with cider down my front and at the height of nearly every male's sweaty pits :-).
Day 08 - A Song That You Know All The Words To : I was gonna put Lose Yourself - Eminem or It's Easy, Mmmkay - South Park Movie but I think I'll think again... Playing God - Paramore.
Day 09 - A Song That You Can Dance To : I'm Not Alone - Calvin Harris.
Or if you're looking for a more relaxed dancey-dance, (Just Like) Starting Over - John Lennon :-).
Day 10 - A Song That Makes You Fall Asleep : Ocean - John Butler.
Beautiful. B-E-A-utiful! Unfortunately, the copy Spotify has ISN'T the same as how J.B plays it on my favourite live version, so I shall also add Come - Lemon Jelly. It will lull you to sleep with it's crazy dreaminess.
Day 11 - A Song From One Of Your Favourite Bands : Darlin' - Avril Lavigne.
One from her new, 'stripped-down' album. She wrote this when she was 15. Very basic lyrics and chords but there's something about it that connects with me. I'm gonna cheat again and add another as I've already had a song from Avril, so here's Justboy - Biffy Clyro as they were my favourite EVER band before their music became more predictable and blended in with everyone elses.
Day 12 - A Song From A Band You Hate : Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja - Lostprophets.
Just think they're over rated.
Day 13 - A Song That Is A Guilty Pleasure : Celebrity Skin - Hole....
Day 14 - A Song That No One Would Expect You To Love : I Think My Dad's Gone Crazy - Eminem.
When I was 15 I first heard this.
Day 15 - A Song That Describes You : The NaNoWriMo Song - All Caps
This just describes what I'm thinking about doing anyway! Come on English degree, work your magic. I paid good money for you.
Day 16 - A Song That You Used To Love But Now Hate : Dakota - Stereophonics.
*Shiver*
Day 17 - A Song That You Hear Often On The Radio : Whirring - The Joy Formidable.
Love this song. It's so summery yet wintery at the same time, if you get me...
Day 18 - A Song That You Wish You Heard On The Radio : Ok, I'm really gonna cheat - but who cares?! It's only going to make a Spotify playlist of cool happenin' choons even more happenin'. My Rock 'n' Roll - Dinosaur Pile-Up, What is Light? Where is Laughter? (vs Skrillex) - Twin Atlantic and Your Body Is A Machine - The Good Natured. I can't get enough of these three tunes right now. All extremely different too which makes quite a nice mix!
Day 19 - A Song From Your Favourite Album : Unwanted - Avril Lavigne.
This one's slightly more grungy than the rest of Let Go. This album made me feel so strong and confident throughout my teens and I suppose it still does.
Day 20 - A Song That You Listen To When You’re Angry : Break Stuff - Limp Bizkit.
'It's just one of those days, when you don't wanna wake up, everything is f***ed, everybody sucks. You dont really know why, but you wanna justify, RIPPIN' SOMEONE'S HEAD OFF'.
Day 21 - A Song That You Listen To When You’re Happy : Bethamphetamine - Butch Walker.
The piano is so clinky and the guitar riff is so chunky :-).
Day 22 - A Song That You Listen To When You’re Sad : What The Hell - Avril Lavigne or Don't You (Forget About Me).
Both make me feel hip-hip-hooray!
Day 23 - A Song That You Want To Play At Your Wedding : True Companion - Marc Cohn
There's so much emotion in this song :').
Day 24 - A Song That You Want To Play At Your Funeral : Me and an old friend used to joke that she'd play A Spaceman Came Travelling - Chris De Burgh at my funeral (I know, weird joke) and I think it was because we'd always play it on the piano... but otherwise (lol) I guess people might play Slipped Away - Avril Lavigne as it's kind of fitting!
Day 25 - A Song That Makes You Laugh : Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown) - Tenacious D.
And yes, I DO know all of the words.

Day 26 - A Song That You Can Play On An Instrument : A Thousand Miles - Vanessa Carlton
I practised this beauty for ages and my late piano teacher, Mrs. Goude guided me. Thank you so much Mrs. G!
Day 27 - A Song That You Wish You Could Play : Landed - Ben Folds
I now have the sheet music - wish me luck!
Day 28 - A Song That Makes You Feel Guilty : Gives You Hell - The All-American Rejects.
This song reminds me of my friend, Ellie. We once drunkenly danced to it, alone, in our kitchen at uni at 3:45am before playing Singstar, haha. She's gone travelling for a year with her boyfriend and I couldn't see her for her leaving party and I feel really bad about it. Miss you, Smell!
Day 29 - A Song From Your Childhood : Pump Up The Jam - Carmen Carter and Mickey Mouse.
The title is correct though Spotify doesn't have MY version *shakes fist* so this one will have to do. It's pretty much identical though! At the begninning the Mickey Mouse one, Mickey said, 'Now here's a song for you folks who love peanut butter - Pump Up the Jam!'
Day 30 - Your Favourite Song At This Time Last Year : Well, actually, this time last year I was right in the middle of revising for my final year exams so I wasn't really listening to a hell of a lot of music. So I really cannot remember! It could have been Spotlight - Mutemath. ...show less
