It is the details of a song that will determine if I stick to it. The details that stand out and takes hold of me.

Below I describe the details that caught me in the first three songs from my playlist of this year's 100 best tracks on Spotify 2011 (since I'm a Swede the 50 best Swedish will be published to a separate playlist). The remaining songs I leave for you to explore the details of. The track order loses significance after the, let's say, first 30 songs.

1. M83 - Midnight City
Just like last year's best song, Yeasayers "Madder Red," this year's best song, M83's "Midnight City," is a senseless orgy of euphony. It is on the verge of grotesque in its exploitation of the nerve fibers which makes each part of the bodybounce of happiness - to the awesome layering of vocals and synth. And just when it is about to become too bombastic it ends with an unlikely beautiful saxophone solo. An incredible song, friends. Breathtaking.

2. Blood Orange - Can We Go Inside Now
Blood Orange made this year's best album with "Coastal Grooves", and created a groove that does not really exist since the pace is slowed down to beyond dance floor status. At the same time there is an extreme groove present. It is intrusive and physically impossible to dismiss. Especially in "Can We Go Inside Now", which completely overwhelmed me when I heard it for the first time - with an addictive feeling of both pleasure and horror.

3. The Rapture - How Deep Is Your Love?
I would be a shame to not make the best possible out of the house piano that opens up The Rapture's "How Deep Is Your Love?". Or, as in this case, top that. For example, with a monstrous beat that rides on a wave of howling vocals, sexy drums, handclaps and saxophone (again!).

Thank you 2011 for a great year in music. ...show less
